Architecture
Set in a smoothly inclined plot, originally defined by lengthwise berms, this 2.000 m² unique piece of land enjoys a not so friendly north east orientation but a spectacular 180° continuous sea view to the Athenian Riviera coastline and the Saronic Gulf. The picturesque little islet hosting a small church was set as the main focal point. Preserving the original natural berms, the construction develops in three main levels.
Entrance, main dwelling and swimming area. The same figure of three levels is also repeated on vertical axes to the 700m² residence. This dwelling walks the line between a contemporary house and a luxury yacht considering the uninterrupted sea view, the constant side to side sea breeze and the luscious sun. Factors that caused at the same time many challenging issues that had to be sufficiently faced, such as the sea water corrosion and the bad water quality.
Marble, terracotta, oak wood and local stone are mainly the materials that have been used, serving both aesthetics and practicality, creating a minimal and stylish result which aspires to integrate fully with the surroundings. Large, marble floor slabs enhance the continuity of the design. Plaster used in the bathroom areas give a fresh, clean, more traditional and yet luxurious feeling during the hygiene process.
The decoration is minimal, linear and clutter free allowing sea and nature to be the main protagonists. Wood is there to give a cozy feeling and to imply once again tradition. Custom made furniture were created specially to satisfy owners demands. Walking one level down from the street level and passing through herbal and fruit gardens, you lead yourself to the ground level where a 16m sliding doors frame opening is waiting to welcome you, unifying the day activity zone of the open plan kitchen and the living room with the swimming pool area. Infinity pool with brackish water & beach like entrance, brashly borrows the colors of the sea laying just in front. A revert L shaped concrete construction is embracing the main ground floor level protecting it from the sun.
A shade that can be enjoyed most hours of the day. Floor plan organization positions all resting areas on all three levels to the northwest side. The staircase core has been kept out of sight from the day common activities zone preserving a clear, well organized circulation which respects tenants’ privacy. A bedroom with an open plan ensuite bathroom with the only bathtub of the house is also located on the ground floor. The floor plan is completed with one more room used either as a home office or as a guest room with the wall, pull down and a day toilet. Upper level is fully dedicated to the master bedroom, the walking closet and the ensuited open plan shower room with separate toilet. Sea & mountain views are everywhere, decorating the otherwise minimal, earthy colored spacious room.
The air is flowing freely thanks to the opposite openings. The ceiling fan is enhancing this natural breeze minimizing the need of air-conditioning & satisfying fully the owners’ wish. One terrace with mountain view and a smaller one with sea view are maximizing the exterior spaces of the upper level. The lower level is hosting the rest of the two bedrooms with one en-suite shower room each and a common terrace, totally protected from the north winds, providing inner views, external & independent access to those guestrooms. The fully equipped spa & gym with an en-suite bathroom with a shower, the laundry room & the day toilet complete the main areas of this level while there is a connection with the secondary spaces of the utility room, the indoor parking place, the storage space and the completely autonomous staff living area.
